Tree Removal
Mature or established trees offer a number of benefits year-round. Unfortunately, there will be occasions when a tree or trees of reasonable size will need to be removed. Although this will likely be an undesirable action, and an unwanted cost on the part of the homeowner, there are several viable reasons/specific situations that make it a necessity to secure the services of an arborist or a tree removal professional.
Tree removal may be required as a result of one or more of the following circumstances:
- Impaired tree health
- Ice and storm damage
- Disease and/or infestation
- Death/unsalvageable situation
- Thinning out overgrown areas
- Property encroachment concerns
In terms of the costs associated with tree removal, there are several factors that need to be taken into consideration. Some of the more fundamental aspects to determining the cost will relate to:
Tree height and diameter
Ease-of-access to the job site
Safety concerns/elements of risk
Clean-up and disposal requirements
Other services (e.g.: stump removal)
Pruning
Part of the responsibility of owning a home is the care and maintenance of the property. For first-occupancy homes in a new subdivision, these owners will be faced with the task of transforming a relatively barren landscape into a warmer and more appealing vista by building a deck/patio, and planting flower beds/gardens, shrubs, and/or some new trees.
Owners of established/older homes and properties must be concerned with maintaining the health and the aesthetic appeal of mature shrubs and trees that have been in place for many years. This maintenance likely will include pruning for trees that have grown to considerable heights. In these instances, for reasons of personal safety, as well as the use of appropriate techniques, such tree pruning may best be left to the skills of an arborist or tree services specialist from Foley Tree Service rather than using a do-it-yourself approach.
Lot Clearing
Effective lot clearing entails a number of important steps, including the following:
- Site surveying
- Safe tree felling
- Full stump removal
- Brush clearing and removal
- Wood chipping and disposal
- Land regrading (if/as needed)
- Tree preservation (as desired)
Risk Assessment
Our certified arborists are experienced in spotting tree defects. They can provide you with a tree health and tree risk assessment, which helps identify potential weaknesses before they become a hazard to you or your property.
Cabling & Bracing
Cabling and bracing techniques allow us to provide a support system for your tree. If you have a tree that poses a threat to your home or other property we can brace it to minimize damage in the case of structural failure. High strength cables are installed in key locations within the canopy to prevent the tree from flexing past its breaking point. Alternatively, if a limb does fail, the cable will prevent it from falling to the ground until we arrive to lower it safely.
Stump Grind
Removing a tree can be quite challenging, as it takes careful planning in terms of safety concerns and preventing damage to any surrounding property and/or structures. Additionally, tree removal is not really complete until the stump has also been removed.
Stump removal is an important step for a number of reasons, including:
- Appearance – stumps can diminish the aesthetics of the property
- Personal safety – tripping over a stump can result in serious injuries
- Flexibility – stumps can restrict the uses/range of options for the yard
- Preventing unwanted growth or insect infestation around/on the stump
Planting
Some property owners have the belief that trees are primarily planted to provide an aesthetic appeal and/or some degree of shade to otherwise unadorned or exposed areas of their grounds. While this mindset has validity, there are actually several reasons why tree planting is important:
- Reducing soil erosion
- Alleviating storm run-off
- Improvement of air quality
- Providing wind/snow breaks
- Replenishing the tree canopy
- Reducing energy consumption
- Providing shade/aesthetics
Hedge Trimming
Hedge trimming and shrub care should be based on several factors that are specific to the type of bush or shrub, including:
- Overall health
- Flowering period
- Ideal size (in scale with surroundings)
- Purpose – aesthetics, windbreak, privacy
- Need to promote growth and blossoms (in general)
- Need to promote interior growth (sunlight penetration)
Storm Work/Hazard Trees
For the most part, mature trees are reasonably resilient in nature, able to withstand the types of weather extremes that befall from one year to the next. In fact, there are many area homeowners who simply expect the trees on their properties to be in their customary places every day, plus or minus their foliage depending on the particular season/time of the year. Hiring us to perform a risk assessment on your property is your best bet to avoid costly expenses related to tree damage.
Regrettably, there will be instances when these mature trees will surrender to the forces of Mother Nature, and homeowners may subsequently need to deal with the aftermaths of severe and destructive summer or winter storms. When such tempests have passed, people may awaken and/or look out their windows to find:
- Major cracks in tree trunks
- Downed or broken branches
- Fully or partially uprooted trees
Sometimes, harsh storm damage is limited to a tree or trees only, but at other times, it can extend to home and property as well. In these latter situations, homeowners might face predicaments where toppled trees or downed/broken branches are found:
